Braided Wigs - Great Protective Styling Method

Over manipulation of your hair (natural or relaxed) is one of the biggest causes of breakage, which can lead to less hair growth. Over manipulation here simply means a hair care practice where handling, styling, and maintenance of the hair is not kept at a minimum. I am one of those women who 'once upon a time' - had really full, healthy and long relaxed hair but cannot really tell what went wrong and why my hair suddenly stopped growing. I decided to start a "healthy hair journey" in September 2015 and was very much inspired by some You tubers who had successfully retained length and volume using one regimen or another.

I followed all the rules, bought all the suggested products and was very dedicated to the routine. From shampooing every week, to alternating deep conditioning / protein treatment, LOC method (Liquid, Oil, Cream), ensuring that my hair was wrapped in a satin bonnet, ACV (Apple cider vinegar) rinse etc. I watched videos and diligently followed the routine as advised but I still wasn't getting the desired results.

Don't get me wrong, there are loads of You tubers & hair bloggers who have successfully developed a healthy hair care routine with significant hair growth, and it's ok to use YouTube, blogs and professional guidance for hair tips, but I strongly believe from personal experience that you must develop a regimen that is specific to you. I for one, have really fine, light weight hair and the constant washing, product application etc was actually weighing down my hair and causing severe breakage.

I came across an article on protective styling as a low manipulation method, and decided to try that out. I started off with sewins but my hairline was still not as safe as I wanted it to be. I started to research on what could work best FOR ME, MY HAIR and I settled for WIGS- more importantly my new found love- BRAIDED WIGS.

I have only visited my hairstylist once this year (to get my weave done) because I have been wearing my braided wigs since the beginning of the year and I am absolutely loving it. Words cannot express how convenient, stylish and easy to maintain our braided wigs are. I will be discussing the different styles and versatility of the braided wigs in my next post. Please feel free to see our braided wig collection HERE.

Getting your own hair care routine takes a little bit of experimentation, understanding what works for you, time and patience. I have not relaxed my hair in the last 6 months and I honestly do not know if I am actually transitioning or not. Right now, I take good care of my hair underneath my Braided Wig and I have seen a significant different in the rate at which my hair sheds. (Caring for your hair under your wig will be discussed in another post)

I hope you enjoyed reading this post. Please feel free to comment and share your experiences so we can learn from each other.

Love,

Funmi...x
